The Abbey.jpg

Clarence Lee Jay, a 1920’s sensation in California, was the architect for The Abbey. His specialty was Mausoleums and Theaters. He is interred alongside his three wives in his Altadena, California Mausoleum which looks remarkably like our Abbey! The Altadena Mausoleum is a grand design and location, just not as BIG as ours!

The first phase of The Abbey was constructed in 1926 and there have been four additions since conception, the most recent being completed in 1967. After experiencing several decades of neglect, in 2013 Hal Ezzell acquired the funeral home and cemetery property. He brought his passion for the history of Rose Hill Cemetery and the architecture of The Abbey Mausoleum, making a strong commitment to restoring this property and creating a place for both the living and the interred to enjoy.

In addition to the Abby Mausoleum, Rose Hill is home to the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum and the Patio Mausoleum.

The Mausoleum's Artistic Treasury

Valued at over 4 million dollars, the marble and granite materials alone within The Abbey Mausoleum reflect its exceptional craftsmanship. Yet, its grandeur goes beyond stone, with intricate stained glass windows adding artistic brilliance. Throughout the expansive mausoleum, a wealth of artistic details narrate stories of the past, creating a culturally rich and deeply moving atmosphere. The Abbey Mausoleum is not only a sanctuary for those at rest but also a living testament to enduring artistry.
