Freida I. Wayne, 82, Retired Investigator for Human Resources & Department of Labor, passed away February 12, 2018 in Tulsa, Oklahoma . Freida was born November 14, 1935 in Bogalusa, Mississippi to parents Earl Logan Wayne and Neva Campbell Wayne .
Freida spent most of her childhood growing up in Jackson, Mississippi with her brother Robert doing what most kids do, exploring their environment and enjoying life. They loved the outdoors and being physically active. Being physically active would follow Freida throughout her life. All through high school and college, Freida worked as a life guard for the local Red Cross. She was tall, athletic and confident and her abilities.
Sometime after graduating college, Freida moved to Tulsa , Oklahoma to live with her Aunt Lucille and Uncle Larry. She found employment working as an Investigator for Human Resources and The Department of Labor where she dedicated the next 30+ years of her life until she retired.
Freida never slowed down and only seemed to become more active in her retirement years. She was an avid tennis player but, golf was where her passion lay. She was a member of Meadowbrook Golf Club as well as Spunky Creek Golf Club where she spent many days and made many close friendships throughout the years. She was on her way to Spunky Creek Golf Club on April 24, 1994 when tornado alarms started to blare. The tornado that hit Catoosa and a second twister that followed caused $13 million in damages and killed 7 people. Freida had just made to the golf clubs parking lot and barely found shelter before the tornado hit. Although scary at the time, her family often teased her about out running a tornado to play golf!
Freida will be remembered for being outgoing, athletic and full of energy and passion. She enjoyed being active but, was also fond of a quiet evening sipping a glass of wine with her cat Mulligan. She loved her family and every year looked forward to spending Christmas in Louisiana with her brother and his family. She was a loving and thoughtful daughter who lived and cared for her mother until her passing at age 101.
Although Freida will be missed by her family and friends, they take comfort in knowing that Freida was ready to go. She valued quality of life, being active and when her health began declining she had made her peace with God and was ready to join her loved ones that had gone before her.
She will be missed by all those who loved her and whom she loved in return.
