Donald Ray Pritchard, 77, Retired Insurance Salesman, went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 4, 2018 in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Don was born July 12, 1940 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to parents Woodrow Wilson Pritchard and Genevieve Sampson Pritchard. A lifelong resident and true Oklahoman, Don and his brother Jack grew up in and around Oklahoma City doing what most boys do…being adventurous and exploring their surroundings. They literally watched Oklahoma, Midwest City and Norman grow up along with them.
Don attended and graduated from Capital Hill High School and wasted little time enlisting in the U.S. Army, where he proudly served his country. It was while he was based near Frankfurt, Germany that he met Fraulein Rita Penski (that would become the love of his life, his soul mate and best friend). Don wasted no time in asking her to become his wife; in addition, adopting her two German-born daughters. In 1962, they were married in Germany and their union was blessed with a son, Ronald “Ron”. Don and Rita shared 52 years together before her passing on April 14, 2014.
Don will be remembered for being an avid fisherman and enjoyed time relaxing at the family cabin in Shawnee, Oklahoma surrounded by those he loved most. He was also a semi-pro bowler and loved to build and fly radio controlled model airplanes. Later in life, Don learned the art of Tatting. He had a unique gift for tatting and more importantly, he thoroughly enjoyed it. No matter how many snowflakes or cross bookmarkers he made, he sold out at craft fairs; thus receiving many phone calls across the state for large quantities of his signature art.
If Don had been asked what he was most proud of throughout his life, he would without hesitation say ‘his family.’ He was affectionately known as “Opa” and ecstatic to have lived long enough to see his great granddaughters arrive. Although Opa will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him best, they take comfort in knowing that he is once again reunited with the love of his life and youngest daughter.
He is preceded in death by his beloved bride Rita; daughter Connie; parents Woodrow and Genevieve Pritchard; brother Jack Pritchard.
Don is survived by his daughter Debbie Pollard of Norman, Ok; son Ronald “Ron” Pritchard of Oklahoma City, Ok; two handsome grandsons Aaron (JoAnne) Stiles of Norman, Ok; Tyler (Sarah) Stiles of Oklahoma City, Ok; his granddaughter, Natasha Pritchard of the home; two beautiful and precious great-granddaughters, Ingrid and Heidi Stiles of Norman, Ok; sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews in Oklahoma and Germany.
Graveside service is scheduled for Friday, February 9, 2018 at 12:00 pm at Resthaven Cemetery 500 SW 104th ST Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73139
