At the time of her passing, Kayla was employed as a server for Red Lobster in Norman and Tulsa where she developed many friendships. Kayla’s mother, Karen, shared her memories of her daughters early years:
“I knew Kayla was special early on in her life. When she was 3-4 yrs old while shopping or any public place Kayla would ask perfect strangers “What’s your name?’ followed by “Do you have any kids? Are you married?” and the conversation would begin. That genuine interest in all the people she met every day continued throughout her life. She never met a stranger and people walked away feeling like she was their best friend.”
Kayla attended Life Church in Edmond, Oklahoma from an early age. She loved going to church and learning about Jesus. In the summer of 2006 at 9 yrs old, she attended church camp with the youth group. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and wanted to be baptized. Her family was blessed with the opportunity to baptize Kayla in the lake that very day.
Kayla traveled many places with her family. Several trips to Cancun and Cozumel Mexico were some of her favorite memories. She also had the opportunity to visit Seattle, Washington, Manhattan Beach, California, Walt Disney World Florida, 2 Carnival Cruises through the Caribbean Islands, Las Vegas, Nevada, Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas and Colorado. Kayla loved to travel and always made friends along the way. She continued to communicate with them maintaining wonderful and lasting friendships.
Kayla was an animal lover and was very passionate in working with Rescue groups especially when it came to Pit Bull Rescue and adoptions. This was a cause very close to her heart. She adopted and loved her own dog Kahki developing a special bond that will remain forever.
Kayla was a miracle and a wonder to her family. She was all things great and good wrapped up in a beautiful girl. Her passing at such an early age is keenly felt by all those who were fortunate enough to have been called family and friend. Her family takes comfort in the knowledge that she is with her savior Jesus Christ and that one day they will be joined together again.
